Back To Work

Hola Everyone,

So this week was back to normal. That Holy Week was really boring for us and we had no one to teach so this week its good to be teaching again. Tuesday we were out tracting with no success at all. That is hard sometimes. People just don’t want to be happy and be blessed I guess. It looks like I’m going to have to keep all these blessings for my self unless some one else says they want them. Right now all we have are Elders in our zone but no Sisters like my old area. The sisters were great. It was fun to have the sisters in our zone. I guess the president know better then us were the sisters need to be but maybe some people would open their door for them cause they are not doing it for us.

We have not done many trade offs lately and they seem to not happen very often here. It’s me and my comp only unless its me going to the store with one of the other elders in the house to buy food. I don’t really like trade offs that much anyway so I’ve been happy with the change. I understand that they can be important but it messes up all of the plans we have since the other Elder doesn’t know who this person is or what they need. I like things just to be as they are for me and our investigators.

So next week is Mother’s day and I get to Skype with you guys. I’m pretty excited. I can’t do it on actual mother’s day cause the internet cafe is closed and we don’t ant to pay on Sunday anyway. Monday through Wednesday are transfers, so it will be a bit crazy to get to the internet on those days. I hope either Thursday, Friday or Saturday of next week works. Let me know what you want and I’ll do that day and time.

Hearing about you guys serving at the temple lately has made me miss it a lot. The temple is in Bogota here so other than going when I was in the MTC I will not get to for the whole rest of my mission. It was so fun to have the youth walk in and see me in the font or in the confirmation room, and be surprised. I heard one group of youth say quietly “I thought only old people worked in the temple, this is weird.” I want to serve again when I get back. I really enjoyed serving the people on both sides of the veil for those few short months. It’s cool that everyone I worked with still asks how I’m doing.

So Mom, I know its your birthday on Thursday so how do you not know what you want to do? Kart Racing is always good. As for presents you have my permission to buy shoes even if I`m not there to approve them. Dad you need to do something nice for her birthday. I’m sure she thinks no one is going to step it up.

Oh and Dad, thanks for sending me the files for that music from the choir down at BYU that I got approved. I heard some at a members house and liked it. Its nice to get some new uplifting stuff to listen too. Only so much Mo Tab you can sometimes deal with.

Love you guys lots,
Alec

P.S.
Dont Blink

This is our Zone with Elder Uceda.

I bought a coin holder last p-day cause it matched my bag I bought before.

Yes they do have Vespa’s down here, just not as cool as some of ours.

Not Quite a Real Easter

Hey Everyone,

Well first off my Easter was pretty stupid. No one does anything here for Easter. Its a holy week for the catholics so every one gets off work and no one dose anything. All of our investigators left for vacations or were spending time with their family, which is awesome for them but sucky for us. We had like no one to teach this week. Then to top it off they didn’t even talk about the savior on Sunday. None of the talks were about Easter. The only thing we had related was the gospel class was about the atonement which I liked and I made a lot of comments. The atonement is my favorite topic about the gospel. I study it quite often. Its the strongest thing we have as missionaries. The restoration is the hook but the real message we have is the atonement. The mission has really shown me how important the atonement is our lives.

So since my awesome Dad sent me money I was in fact able to get new shoes this week. I bought them in Bosi, they are super fly and snazzy. Best of all they are super comfy. At first they were not but I have started breaking them in and they have started to loosen up so they are going to be great. The best is that they have a big heel so they will last a while I hope.

The best part of my week was that Elder Uceda (Area Seventy) came to our mission. He talked with us for 3 hours. It was super cool. Something cool he did is he told us not to write down any thing he says, only to write what the spirt said. He also told us to raise our hand briefly every time the spirt said something to us. Not to share, just so he could see when and who the spirit was talking to. It was an amazing experience. He didn’t talk about things like Kolob, or the secret powers of the priesthood. He talked in basic words and mainly talked about facing your fears but because he spoke with the spirit every one who wanted to learned a lot more then just facing your fears. I’m not going to write down every thing the spirit said but the last thing I felt was when he was bearing his testimony, he said that he knows we are all children of God and the sprit whispered to me ``What are you willing to do to be worthy to be called a child of the living God?” It was a great meeting!

I got some cool pictures from home this week. I cant help but laugh, the first thing I thought of when I saw the speedo and the sticker cutter of my Dad’s was what mom has always said ``boys and their toys``. I thought it fit nicely. The speedo looks super fly. Who thought that you could make a custom speedo with just a vinyl sticker cutter. Now that you have a sticker cutter, you should send me a fun sticker of your choosing in my next package. I am also missing out on the pins/buttons you said you would send. I have had my year mark year and I got transferred for a second time so that is two like right there. Please and thank you from your favorite middle child.

Braden’s scooter is looking pretty sweet. The GTR gun metal is awesome especially when its matte and has the black accents. Oh and also I sent the photo of the cafe racer to Elder Cutler, my friend from the coast, just to make him suffer a little bit.

Well I hope you all have a great week. Love you all lots,
Alec

Cooking like champs and I still have my fancy apron. We made Patacons.
(plantains fried and flattened and then refried with omelets.

These are the new cases for my English scriptures and the mini hymn book I ordered for my birthday.

Dinner after our meeting with Elder Uceda for my district.

My new shoes I got to replace the old ones, snazzy right?

Nerf Wars

Hola Everyone,

First off to my Mom, I’m so sorry about you kidney stone and even more sorry that you got left alone after the surgery for days. I’m sending you a telepathic hug, did you get it? No? Let me try again.......how about now? Well, I, hope you got it. I only have enough telepathic power to send two hugs for today. I will send some more tomorrow. And Dad, since Mom is feeling sad from her trip to the hospital can you buy her some chocolate or some thing and say that its from me? Please and thank you.

Now onto my foot update. Well, my toes are doing good. I never got the left one taken out, but she cut out all of the dead skin and scar tissue. It stopped being infected and has returned to its normal size and color, so ya my body is like Wolverine and heals super fast. I think I am good to go and will never have problems like this again. If I have a problem even a little bit again I am going to go straight to the medic, promise.

This week we got to do an activity in the church for members less active and investigators. We played a few games like putting a cookie on your forehead and having to put it in your mouth with out using your hands. We also played the game where everyone gets in a circle and puts there hands in the middle and grabs some one else's hand then they have to untangle themselves to form a circle. The last game we played was an old west duel, with nerf guns. This one was by far the best. We had little kids, youth, and adults playing but the best was when the bishop and the stake presidents councillors went at it. They really got into it. They were jumping over chairs, hiding behind the members and running around. It was super funny to watch. I think showing we are real people and can have fun as well as be spiritual will help make them come more.

P-days lately have been pretty chill. We mainly go to the city center to look around, sometimes we buy things, a lot of the time its for people watching (well thats what I do, I don’t know about the other elders). The last p-day I bought a knock off Hugo Boss cologne which is awesome. It was like 10 bucks and smells the same because they just mix the chemicals together to get the same thing. I also designed in photoshop a t-shirt for my comp. He loves Dr House and Carl Lightmen so I made him a shirt. We had it printed up and it looks pretty sweet. How many other elders can do that - none. Its because I’m awesome.

Oh and I was wondering if I could get some money for new shoes. Also as you will see in the photo below, my shoes did not make it as long as I hoped. We have walked this whole mission so far. I need to get some new ones. They are like 300,000 pesos which is $150 USD. I’m sorry every thing here costs so much. Its because there is the black market (which every one uses, its like in Turkey with the genuine fake watches). They make a bunch of fake things so it pushes the prices of the real items up so they can make money because no none wants to buy quality. They just want the brand plastered on their clothes. Let me know what you can do. : )

Dad’s Abrarth Track Experience sounded really cool. Thats awesome that it was better then the Nascar one you did before. Now you just need to test F1 to be totally set. I hope this doesn’t mean that you plan on driving your Fiat like you did on the track at home. What happened to your BWM tires was bad, but then again the Fiat tires are dirt cheap so I guess that does mean that you will be driving like Steve McQueen every where you go.

Speaking of cars, I think I just need to stop listening to Braden. He keeps saying that you guys are changing plans for the Fozzy. Your going to sell her or your going to rebuild the engine, or your going to rebuild the engine then sell her. I’m thinking he has lots of ideas and keeps messing with it but has never talked to you. I’ll wait to hear the real stuff from you from now on before I think its real.

Well I love you guys lots,

Alec

Moses 6:34

This is the shirt I designed for my comp.

These are my super dead shoes. I really need new ones.

Millonarios.! This is the team from Bogota. I was in Bogota for the beginning
of my mission so I thought I would buy it last p-day.

Conference Weekend

Hey Everyone,

So first, I did get to watch conference this weekend, and I got to watch it in English all 5 sessions, WOOOOO. I can understand when they speak in Spanish but its a straight shot in English. There is no translating, no questions, just doctrine directly to my ear holes. I took notes as well. I really enjoyed watching conference. I’m looking forward for the next one in 6 months.

We met a new sister this week to teach while we were visiting a less active sister. She lives just up the street. She told us that she just isn’t happy anymore. She has had different men in her life but they never seem stick around. She just seemed so sad. We knew that she needed to hear the plan of salvation. She absolutley loved it. She understood why none of those other guys stuck around, she needed to find someone that would be with her forever. She said that she needed to start searching in better places to find someone that would want to spend all eternity with her. We told her she could find some one if she came to church (she was all for that). It was cool to see, we had planed to teach our less active but we got to teach her friend and encourage better dating.

As for my toes, I have an appointment planed for this week to get the other nail taken out. I had one last friday but the member that was a medic had to cancel because she had to go to the doctor for a check-up so I had to change to this week. I am also still taking an antibiotic so I am going to live, don’t you worry. The swelling and infection have gone way down.

We also helped a sister move this week. All of our appointments fell through so we went back to the house to plan what we were going to do. All of a sudden this sister calls on the phone, and asks ´´Hey, can you help me move, like right now.´´ Answer to prayers right there. We hauled everything out of her house and took it to her sisters house that lives near by. What happened is the landlord started being nasty and raising the price of the rent so her and her husband said screw it we are out of here. They are looking for a new house but right now they are staying with the sister. They are a super awesome family. I am glad we could help them out. We don’t get to do enough service around here.

Dad wrote me and told me you had been searching my log in for my secret bacon recipe. I’m glad you found it and could enjoy it for conference even if now my secret is out. Bacon is awesome!!!

Also just a heads up to everyone, not sure if I wrote this before or not. DO NOT write Elder on any of my letters or packages. The post office here is getting weird about it and returning all of my stuff back to the states. So mean. Just write plain Alec Meyers and we’re good. If you got anything returned to you lately I would love for you to resend it please, please! :)

Anyway, ta ta for now.

Love,
Alec

My District after conference.

Had a member decide to paint me a wok of art.

Between conference sessions on Saturday we made a mad dash to the super market
to buy stuff for our dinner and I found the Holy Grail. They had a cheese section!!!!
